In pictures: Google Nexus 7 unboxing

We unbox Google's Nexus 7 Android tablet

  • We've been lucky enough to get our hands on the hottest tablet around at the moment, the [[artnid:428682|Google Nexus 7]]. Let's unbox it!

The Nexus 7 retail packaging. Unlike many other devices, Google appears to have used the same packaging for all markets.

  • There's a few hilarious videos circulating the Web of users having difficulty opening the Nexus 7 box, but we didn't have too many issues.

  • The Nexus 7 neatly tucked away in the box.

  • The Nexus 7 packaging is very tidy, though the box housing all the accessories and extras is a little annoying to remove.

  • Included in the Nexus 7 sales package is a quick start guide, a warranty card, an AC charger and a USB cable. Note the charger in our review unit is Taiwanese -- obviously Australian models with ship with the appropriate AU charger.

  • The rear of the box details some of the Nexus 7's features including compatibility with Google Play and the Google suite of services like YouTube, Gmail and the Chrome browser.

  • The Nexus 7 in all of its glory. The screen is superb, even if it lacks the true clarity of the iPad when displaying super fine text. However, the iPad is significantly more expensive, starting at $539. The Nexus 7 can be bought for just $249.

  • The Google Now feature. More on that when we publish our full review.

  • We love the soft feeling plastic on the back of the Nexus 7. The small indents printed all over the rear make it look and feel a little like leather. This surface also makes the tablet comfortable to hold and therefore easy to use single-handedly without the risk of it slipping out of your hands.

  • The Google Nexus 7 charges via a standard micro-USB port, as shown above.

  • Both the power/lock button and the volume controls are located on the right side of the Nexus 7.
