Quest Software now offers industry's broadest set of Active Directory solutions
Offers Software for Managing, Migrating Active Directory, With a Range of Customer Options
IRVINE, Calif., May 18, 2004 – Quest Software (Nasdaq: QSFT), a leading provider of application, database and Windows management solutions, today unveiled product decisions and resulting offerings for the management and migration of Microsoft Active Directory. The announcement was part of Quest Software’s Windows Management product integration roadmap announced today. The roadmap white paper, available at http://wm.quest.com/newsroom/pressroom/, outlines the strategy and products that result from Quest Software’s recent acquisition of Aelita Software.
“Both Quest Software and Aelita have long been known for products that help IT professionals manage Active Directory, and in bringing the two companies’ product suites together, careful thought was given to how to protect and extend the investments of the combined customer base,” said Martyn Pregnell, Managing Director – Asia Pacific, Quest Software. “The result is a complete solution for Active Directory management. Whether a customer seeks to enhance day-to-day directory administration or fully automate provisioning, Quest Software offers a one-stop shop to meet customers’ current and future needs.” Prior to the acquisition, Quest Software offered ActiveRoles, an Active Directory management product licensed for more than seven million users worldwide. At the same time, Aelita offered Enterprise Directory Manager, chosen by other customers with different requirements. In the interest of clarity and simplicity, Quest Software is unifying the Active Directory management solutions previously offered by both companies under the ActiveRoles name.
A core product will be offered with add-on modules to meet a spectrum of customer requirements. Quest ActiveRoles core functionality includes role-based delegation, rule-based administration, self administration and GPO management. The optional ActiveRoles Server Module offers centralized auditing, strict rule enforcement and extended delegation capabilities. The ActiveRoles Provisioning Module provides automated account maintenance, mailbox and share creation, dynamic groups and a Software Developers Kit.
In addition to ActiveRoles, the Quest Windows Management group offers: • Quest Password Reset Manager to improve service to end users, reduce the burden on help desk staff and ensure password security; • Quest Spotlight on Active Directory for system diagnostics and troubleshooting; • Quest Reporter to collect, filter, and report on network security and file permissions; • Recovery Manager for Active Directory (formerly Aelita Recovery Manager for Active Directory) for rapid online recovery of Active Directory, System State and Group Policy data; • Domain Migration Wizard (formerly Aelita Domain Migration Wizard) for ZeroIMPACT migration of user accounts from Windows NT to Active Directory; • Enterprise Migration Manager (formerly Aelita Enterprise Migration Manager) for Active Directory restructuring and “pruning and grafting;” • NDS Migrator for migration from Novell NDS to Active Directory.
Quest Software has decided to discontinue sales and development of two Active Directory products in favor of similar products with superior functionality and potentially greater customer impact. Support for Quest ActiveRestore will be discontinued effective June 30, 2004, and customers with current maintenance contracts will receive Recovery Manager for Active Directory for no additional license fee. Similarly, the Aelita Self-Serve Password Reset module of the former Aelita Enterprise Directory Manager product will no longer be supported after Dec. 31, 2004, and customers with current maintenance contracts will be provided with the Quest Password Reset Manager for no additional license fee.
