Vignette unveils new employee portal applications
Vignette Application Portal 7.0 is now available for free limited trial use in Australia
Sydney, 31 March 2004 - Vignette has strengthened its leadership position in the portal market by releasing a fully certified standards-compliant portal that drives business efficiencies for organisations developing new or updating existing portals. In addition, Vignette now offers complimentary trials in direct response to the market’s desire to evaluate and test portal products before purchase.
Part of the Vignette V7 family of products, Vignette Application Portal 7.0 offers a suite of portal applications that help kick-start any portal deployment. Included in this suite are customisable and reusable portlets (or online business applications) for self-service for human resource functions, recruitment, surveying, IT asset management, sales, FAQs, and event calendars.
In local and domestic markets portals are being widely adopted for improved communications and business efficiencies. For example, change management associated with a merger or acquisition strategy can be aided through the rapid development of a single multi-lingual portal. A portal is an efficient way to unify a new corporate culture, while delivering an easy to use, highly secure and personalised employee Intranet.
Vignette also allows disabled administrators to easily manage portal sites and administrators in multi-lingual regions to access a shared portal console that is localised for each individual administrator's language.
Vignette Application Portal is platform-neutral and leverages standards to provide the portal industry's broadest platform support, while affording developers the flexibility to choose their Integrated Development Environments (IDE) and portal independently of each other. The portal offering also has full certification for J2EE, and Java Specification Request (JSR) 168 (the latest portlet interoperability standard).
According to Gene Phifer, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner, "Organisations today are demanding more and more from their portal deployments, and the ability to display content from disparate applications in context is a unique differentiator that will drive business efficiency and value. Organisations worldwide that are considering new portal deployments should ask vendors about their support for industry-standards, such as J2EE and JSR 168, as well as request proof of concept demonstrations. The vendors that enable prospective users to readily test their product, and that can launch scalable deployments quickly, should be strongly considered."
