Mercury Interactive Ranked #1 in Distributed Automated Software Quality Market

Mercury Interactive Achieves 55.2 percent Market Share in 2002

SUNNYVALE, CALIF. —JULY 21, 2003 —Today, Mercury Interactive Corporation (NASDAQ: MERQ), the global leader in business technology optimization (BTO), announced that it has increased Distributed ASQ market share to 55.2 percent, more than double that of its nearest competitor. This ranking is based on worldwide revenues for the year 2002 and is reported in the new IDC “Worldwide Distributed Automated Software Quality Tools Forecast and Analysis, 2003-2007”.

According to IDC, Mercury Interactive was a bright spot in this market segment in 2002 as many of the leading vendors saw declines in distributed ASQ revenue in the same period. IDC’s definition of the distributed ASQ market includes products for software unit testing, system testing, and support for quality assurance, which are all part of Mercury Interactive’s application delivery offerings.

“Mercury Interactive has once again extended its lead in the Distributed ASQ market, a very important growth area of the business technology optimization industry,” said Dick Heiman, research director at IDC. “Mercury Interactive continues to anticipate customer needs and be among the first to address them with innovations in its application delivery offerings."

IDC reports that the distributed ASQ market will exceed US$635 million in 2003 and top US$1.1 billion in 2007. The ASQ market is one of three large growth areas of BTO, which Mercury leads with its application delivery and management offerings.
