IBC takes on the New Media Era

The IBC2019 exhibition and conference are putting the consumer at the heart of the new era in media, theming this year’s edition to be held in Amsterdam in September, ‘Consumers First: A New Era in Media’.

The IBC curators state that this year’s program that addresses the biggest opportunities and challenges faced by the industry. Top brass from YouTube; Vivendi and Amazon Alexa will lead the keynote conversations whilst five new conference tracks have been devised to focus on each stage of the end-to-end media content chain, featuring insight from over 300 expert speakers from around the world.

These new conference streams include; Create & Produce: Creating Disruption; Manage: Automating Media Supply Chains; Publish: Embracing the Platform Revolution; Consume: Engaging Consumer Experiences and Monetise: Scaling Audiences and Revenues. Each track will also feature Tech Talks, presenting cutting-edge technical papers and in-depth discussions on the technology enabling the media content chain.

One of the accelerating growth sectors of the industry, Esports, plays a core role at IBC2019 with the IBC Esports Showcase, supported by ESL, Lagardère and EVS. In a conference first, it will feature a full esports tournament staged in the Auditorium. One of the drivers of esports globally is that it delivers younger audiences on digital channels making this a brand-new revenue opportunity for players in the media ecosystem.

Esports revenues are set to exceed US$1 billion in 2019, representing year-on-year growth of 26.7%, and are forecast to reach $3 billion by 2022.

Another new segment will be the TM Forum will bring the Media-Telecom Catalyst projects to IBC which will showcase innovation between the telecoms and media industries and include participation from Al Jazeera, Associated Press, BBC R&D, RTÉ and more to exploit 5G, AI, and data management. 

Returning to the conference format will be the ‘Global Gamechangers’  which brings leading innovators and business disruptors from across the media, entertainment and technology spectrum to share successes and stimulate debate. These leaders will include Gary Shapiro, President and CEO, Consumer Technology Association; Jane Turton, CEO, All3Media, and Lisa Opie, Managing Director, UK Production, BBC Studios.

IBC2019 returns to Amsterdam across September 13-17.
