Convergence rocks New Zealand at MediaTech Pacific 2018

The convergence of the broadcasting and digital media sectors across the Pacific was scrutinised at the Media Technology Pacific (MTP)conference in Auckland.

MTP is the Pacific region’s premier conference focusing on media technologies and connectivity and the evolution of technologies, workflows, and best practices for the creation and delivery of professional audio-visual content.

The conference featured speakers and panel discussions that took a wide-ranging look at how technology needs to adapt to the shifting tides of disruption across the complete media landscape. This included a look at new technology uses in the NZ media environment, as well as emerging trends internationally.

The third biannual event was held on 1st and 2nd of August, at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland.

Kordia and Gencom Technology were lead sponsors for the event with speakers from broadcasters and technology carriers. Conference Chair Gerry Smith, drive the conversation of how technology is shaping the future of media.

Past events have included presentations from industry leaders from around the world, and covered themes ranging from reinventing the TV and IPTV experience in a connected world, to the future of satellite and terrestrial broadcasting.

The MTP covered the leading developments and disruption of the local sector and in previous years has included the inside story of how Spark Digital Ventures built the Lightbox OTT video, the technical planning and implementation of Checkpoint with John Campbell, New Zealand’s first truly cross-media live news program.

The 2018 show will continue these themes and look at new developments including the growth of IP video and cloud infrastructure in broadcast operations as well as the emergence of new content categories such as eSports.
