Like the hacker attacks that have slowed major Web sites to a crawl over the last three days, saturation news coverage of the attacks is clogging all the major news outlets. Surely it constitutes "secondhand denial-of-service" when hacker news crowds other coverage off of front pages and business pages. Witness:

Yesterday, Reuters got with the program. The company announced an investment of nearly $800 million, or some 500 million pounds, over four years, along with "a host" (BBC) or "a clutch" (Guardian-Observer) of technology deals, all aimed at moving its businesses onto the Internet.

Teenage hackers who figured out last late last year how to steal the online identities of AOL Instant Messaging users e-mailed at least three technology reporters on Sunday to demonstrate that vulnerability. Salon.com, CNET and MSNBC all witnessed demonstrations in which the hackers changed the passwords to AIM accounts.

The man who tried and failed last year to auction a complete Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton online is having another go. Last July's eBay auction, like the recent one for the domain name Year2000.com, was marred by prank bids. This time the owner of the bones is using the auction services of Lycos, backed up by Millionaire.com, in order to prequalify bidders by verifying their financial status.
