StorageTek buys storage mgmt. company

Storage Technology (StorageTek) Thursday announced that it has acquired storage management vendor Storability Software.

Storability, one of the original storage service providers, reorganized in 2002 to sell the management software it used to manage customer accounts. The Southborough, Mass.-based company's Global Storage Manager software will be added to StorageTek's information lifecycle management software.

Global Storage Manager is storage resource management software that helps customers view and optimize their multi-vendor storage networks.

StorageTek and Storability have worked together for two years. In July 2002, StorageTek bought Storability's Storage Operations Center (SOC) and launched a remote managed service offering.

Financial terms were not disclosed.
