E-commerce solutions provider RHE and Associates expanded its trans-Tasman business in Perth this month, in a strategic move to capitalise on high demand for e-commerce platforms in WA, and time-zone advantages for Southeast Asian projects.

Malcom Tuck, managing director of RHE West, said the West Coast expansion would meet growing WA business demand for e-commerce platform deployment, thereby enabling organisations to perform online procurement, B2B purchasing and financial service delivery. Strongest demand for e-commerce services in WA came from the banking, Internet venture, airline, insurance and government sectors, according to Tuck. An existing Perth client base serviced from Sydney and Auckland also pushed RHE West to move into Western Australian and Southeast Asian markets, he added.

Tuck said RHE West differentiated itself from other e-commerce solution providers in that it did not offer the enterprise boxed, resellable products, but "approached e-commerce from a project delivery service angle". RHE West employed a holistic style, providing e-commerce strategy and architecture definition, to detailed design, development and deployment of resulting systems, according to the company.

WA IT investment company Impress Technologies has backed RHE's growth plans with capital and "managerial input" for a 35 per cent equity swap, Tuck said. "[Impress] provides the essential local business knowledge and experience."

While he refused to disclose details on any business developments in SE Asia, he said RHE West's long-standing partnership with Asia-based IT consultancy and integration partner Argenta would boost RHE West's regional profile. "We will be involved in skill transfer to [Argenta's] local personnel in the Southeast Asian markets, with it working as a member of our development and delivery teams," he said of their plans. Argenta specalises in e-commerce services for the financial, telco, health and government sectors. The company has offices in Bangkok, Manila and Sydney.

RHE West's local clients include Sun Microsystems and Thin Technologies.
