Nextgen Group subsidiary Metronode has officially opened its second Perth data centre, Perth 2, which will offer customers a power utilisation efficiency (PUE) of 1.17.
According to the company, it has a 2.8 megawatt (MW) capacity.
Metronode general manager Malcolm Roe said the facility is located in Shenton Park, five kilometres from Perth’s CBD, an ideal position for disaster recovery in the city.
“Through the use of free air cooling, it is designed to significantly reduce electricity consumption by up to 90 per cent compared to traditional data centres,” he said in a statement.
“This, combined with the use of our modular plant systems, will deliver PUE for our tenants while reducing carbon emissions.”

IT services provider Empired has been confirmed as a tenant in Perth 2.
According to Empired general manager Brett Gresele, taking space in the data centre would expand his company’s offering of solutions to government and enterprise customers.
“As a service operator in both Perth and on the east coast we needed a supplier who could support us across the country. With nine data centres and a national fibre network, Nextgen Group was the obvious choice,” Gresele said.
