Microsoft snaps up NCompass labs

In a move aimed at furthering its .Net Internet initiative, Microsoft Corp. last week said it has agreed to acquire NCompass Labs Inc., which makes software for creating and managing Web content.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Microsoft will rebrand San Jose-based NCompass' Resolution 4.0 as Microsoft Content Management Server 2000, with release scheduled for late in the third quarter or early in the fourth.

Customers who buy the product in the interim will continue to receive support and product upgrades from Microsoft, the company said.
