QLD Transport puts call out for smartcard readers

Queensland Transport has issued a tender for the supply of handheld smartcard readers for its incoming New Queensland Driver License (NQDL).
The project, which has been in development for three years, will replace the basic security mechanisms on the existing license with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificates, facial recognition, and embedded registration and license information.
Queensland Transport claims the card will reduce fraud, simplify card issuing and cut red tape.
The tender will close September 1 this year.
