French Linux vendor MandrakeSoft S.A. has reported its first quarterly net profit since 1999.
In an announcement Wednesday, the Paris-based company said it earned a net profit of US$334,803 on consolidated revenue of US$1.76 million in its first fiscal quarter, which ended December 31. That compares with a net loss of US$731,213 in the same quarter a year ago.
Revenue grew 8.4 percent from the same quarter a year ago, according to the company.
The improved results were accomplished by refocusing the company on its core business and higher gross-margin revenue lines, according to MandrakeSoft.
The company said it expects to break even throughout its 2003-2004 fiscal year.
MandrakeSoft, which tends to have a solid user base among small and midsize businesses, offers a full range of Linux operating systems, from desktop versions to versions that support the latest 64-bit processors from Advanced Micro Devices Inc. and Intel Corp.
