FRAMINGHAM (05/04/2000) - The second beta version of Microsoft Corp.'s Host Integration Server 2000, the next edition of SNA Server, is now available. The server, which focuses on integrating mainframes and AS/400 systems with Web-based applications, now includes a bidirectional replication feature that connects Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases over a LAN, WAN or the Internet. The software also has support for IBM's DB2 database and COM+ support for CICS and IMS transactions. The server is expected to ship midyear.

Talisma has begun shipping a program that lets companies talk to Web site visitors in real time online. Talisma Chat 2.0 works with the company's customer-relationship management tool. The Windows NT-based chat software costs $3,000 per seat, with a one-time start-up fee of $7,500.
Check Point Software has begun shipping a new version of its Provider-1 management server. The software, used by large companies and ISPs, can manage multiple installations of Check Point firewall/virtual private network (VPN) and traffic management gear through a single console. Now called Provider-1 2000, the updated Unix-based management server lets users create a firewall/VPN usage policy and have the policy remotely implemented across the Internet on multiple Check Point Firewall-1, VPN-1 or Floodgate-1 equipment it manages. In the past, each device had to be configured separately. Provider-1 2000 starts at $79,000 for a large corporate customer.
