LAS VEGAS (05/10/2000) - Furthering its ambitions to be a full service Internet access provider, US West Inc. on Wednesday announced three new services at the NetWorld+Interop show.
The first of these, dubbed Digital Anywhere, is a broadband access program aimed at companies wanting to give their employees the option of working from home.
"We want to bring the kind of Internet quality to the home that [workers] are used to in the office," said Solomon Trujillo, chairman, president, and CEO of US West.
The program is available to companies signing up for 25 or more connections, and provides 256Kbps to 7Mbps DSL, 144Kbps data-only IDSL (ISDN DSL), and 128Kbps ISDN access options. The services cost varies from $29.95 to $68 to $79.95 per month respectively. Customers in areas where DSL is not currently available will also be able to upgrade to DSL for free once it does become available, according to the company.
"We will be able to reach 98 percent of our customers with Digital Anywhere," said Janice L Aune, president of US West's !nterprise division.
Recognizing that some companies do not want the overhead of managing their increasingly complex networks, US West also announced additions to its portfolio of outsourced network management services, which are marketed under the name Total Care for Networks name.
The two newest additions to the portfolio are the IP-PBX Management Service, which monitors voice and data traffic on converged networks as well as tracking and reporting faults, and the Application Traffic Management Service which uses RMON technology to track network usage by application. Other options in the family include Managed Data Services, Telecom Management Services, Professional Services, Call Center Solutions, and Desktop Management Services.
Finally, US West announced that it is starting to offer DSL services to companies outside its 14-state service area. Initially, the company is moving into the California market, and has already begun offering service in Sacramento, with San Diego following by the end of spring, and San Jose and San Francisco coming on stream by midyear. The company is offering Web hosting and design as part of the package; it is also offering a service to wire up multi-tenant office buildings under the banner Integrated Solutions for Businesses.
