SAN MATEO (05/15/2000) - Promising lower entry-level price points and faster time to establish a Web presence for small to midsize businesses, Dell Computer Corp. Monday broadened its DellHost hosting service.
DellHost, which was introduced in February, has a client list of more than 2,000 businesses using either dedicated hosting services or shared hosting, through which several different Web sites exist within the same server.
Expanded offerings include guaranteed next-day setup for dedicated hosting as well as a lower price for dedicated hosting starting at $249 a month on Dell PowerApp servers. Dedicated hosting on higher-end Dell PowerEdge servers begins at $299 a month.
Shared hosting services from Dell begin at $17.95 per month.
Also announced Monday were lower prices for Dell Web-site design services, which will start at $99 for entry-level Web-site design. Prices had varied previously. An entry-level Web site is generally several company information pages without any transaction capabilities.
Dell also will lower the price for domain registration to $25 per year, down from an average of $35, with the option to transfer domain registrations from other Web-hosting services within 48 hours at no cost.
