BOSTON (03/01/2000) - Cisco Systems Inc. is acquiring privately held Atlantech Technologies, which makes software aimed at helping configure and monitor network hardware, in a stock deal valued at about US$180 million.
Cisco holds a 9.5 percent stake in the Glasgow, Scotland-based Atlantech, whose 120 employees will continue to be overseen by Atlantech Chief Executive Officer David Sibbald. Atlantech will become part of the Cisco Communications Software and Network Services Group and will remain in Glasgow, Cisco said in a statement today.
Cisco said that the aim of the acquisition is to expand its initiative of offering network management for integrated data, voice and video networks.
Atlantech's software will allow Cisco to offer one integrated platform for network management to service providers and partners, Cisco said.
