SAN MATEO (05/26/2000) - BMC Software Inc. at its Assurance 2000 conference in Las Vegas this week joined with Insuretrust.com LLC on a program to insure ASPs (application service providers) against Internet-related risks.
The company also unveiled plans focusing on SAP R/3 business applications.
Under BMC's program with Insuretrust.com, which is customized for ASPs using BMC's Patrol management software, Insuretrust will underwrite damages related to either outside lawsuits resulting from DoS (denial of service) attacks or against internal losses suffered by the ASP itself in these attacks, according to Steven H. Haase, CEO at Insuretrust.com, in Atlanta. For example, ASPs could be covered against losses suffered during downtime by a brokerage.
ASPs certified through BMC's OnSite performance management program can purchase Insuretrust.com's "e-vailability" insurance -- the Assuretrust Contractual Obligation policy -- at what is likely to be a lower rate than if they had not gone through BMC's certification, Haase said. Insuretrust's own underwriting and technical requirements must also be met.
"ASPs can make a stronger promise to their customers that [ASPs] can take responsibility," said Wayne Morris, vice president of corporate marketing at BMC.
BMC at the show also announced it has agreed to purchase Israeli R/3 tools vendor, OptiSystems Solutions Ltd., whose OptiManage product provides service-level management capabilities for R/3. The cost of the acquisition is approximately $70 million.
BMC plans to integrate OptiManage with BMC's Patrol and MainView product lines, with integrated products expected out by the end of the year. The OptiSystems offering supports any platform that runs R/3.
Also at the show, BMC unveiled Patrol for R/3 -Diagnose, which provides real-time fault management and addresses the cycle of problem identification and resolution in R/3 environments, according to BMC. Patrol for R/3 -Diagnose is available now with prices starting at $13,000, depending on configuration.
