Steel City gets e-commerce centre

A drop-in e-commerce centre for small and medium-sized businesses in the Steel City opened last week at Wollongong University's information technology and computer science school, where it will offer businesses the opportunity to discover online trading or learn about the technology involved.

Professor Peter Croll said the centre's aim is to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) find the right business solution before committing to purchasing products or services, he said. The drop-in centre also has a dedicated link to a new science centre in the Wollongong suburb of Fairy Meadow.

The university's information technology and computer science school established the centre in partnership with an e-enabled alliance of BHP Information Technology, Telstra and the DMW Group. The drop-in centre is staffed by university IT honours students who have been trained by experienced BHP IT personnel in a range of e-commerce business
