Sony’s light and easy flash media-based Walkman range intensifies line up and reinforces Sony portable music heritage

Sydney – September 22, 2004 – Sony Australia strengthened its personal audio product range today with the unveiling of a new range of flash media-based digital music players, the 128MB NW-E50 (E50) and 256MB NW-E70 (E70). Both measuring around the size of a matchbox, the sassy models are small enough to fit on a key chain, yet can house enough music to last from morning till night .

The tiny devices are also huge on battery life, offering up to 70 hours on continuous play on each, using only one AAA battery. Since there are no moving parts, users can enjoy uninterrupted playback even during serious and strenuous sports and activities.

Chips Pang, Product Manager, Sony Australia, said, “These stylish and compact players are so small and light you won't think twice about taking them with you anywhere. They can hold loads of music and the fact that they don’t skip makes them ideal for sports or any active lifestyle. The new players use built-in memory chips called flash memory with 128MB built-in on the Network Walkman E50 and 256MB on the E70.”

The flash-based player connects directly to a PC’s USB port for quick transfers and comes bundled with SonicStage version 2.0 music management software. Both products feature backlit LCD displays with four modes to show track number, play modes, artist names, song titles and more. For people who like different ‘soundtracks’ for different exercise, sports or activities it’s simply a matter of using the group/folder function. This is a super simple way of grouping favourite playlists together.

Pang continued, “We understand that the digital music market is not about one size fits all. Every customer has different needs when it comes to how they want to listen to their music on the move. We’ve introduced these flash media-based devices with the kind of style, quality and durability people have come to expect from any Sony Walkman product. They complete our extensive line-up of portable music devices, which also includes Hi-MD MiniDisc players, CD Walkman devices and the newly launched HD1 20GB hard disk drive music player.”

The E50 and E70 support a number of music formats, including MP3, ATRAC and ATRAC3plus audio compression technology, which delivers high data compression while maintaining quality of sound and exceptional battery life.
