HONG KONG (04/06/2000) - The latest high-tech incubation center in Shanghai's Pudong district will focus on Internet startups, according to a report by the official Xinhua News Agency.
The center was funded primarily by the Pudong Productivity Promotion Center, the Shanghai Information Investment Co. Ltd., the report said. It will also be backed by the Ministry of Science and Technology's Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise Innovation Fund.
Along with Beijing's Zhongguancun district and the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone near Hong Kong, Shanghai is emerging as one of the major centers for high-tech development in China. Last month, Shanghai officials opened the Pudong Software Park as a center for development of software by domestic and foreign vendors.
