STOCKHOLM (04/06/2000) - RealNames Corp. yesterday announced the launch of operations in Japan and the formation of a U.K-based business development team with the mission to build partnerships to drive adoption throughout Europe of the company's Internet Keywords system for navigating the Web.
To be based in London, the European business development group will report to John Tomany, a former British Telecommunications PLC official who has been appointed vice president of business development for the U.K. and Europe at the company's wholly-owned RealNames International Corp. subsidiary, the company said in a statement.
RealNames' Japan operations, meanwhile, will be headed by Takeo Yamada, director of international development for Asia, who will oversee all of the company's operations in Japan, including sales, marketing, customer service and engineering, the company said in a separate statement. Yamada will report directly to Ted West, president and chief executive officer of RealNames International.
The RealNames International subsidiary was formed only last month as a vehicle for the California-based company's push into international markets. [See "RealNames Looks to the World," March 21.]Internet Keywords is a system developed by RealNames to allow users to find their way around the Web by using common words, slogans or phrases rather than typing specific Web addresses.
The system also supports the use of local languages. In Japan for example, the Internet Keywords system supports the use of Kanji characters as well as the Hiragana and Katakana alphabets, RealNames said.
