Intel to Open European E-Business Centers

LONDON (04/07/2000) - Chip giant Intel Corp. today announced that it plans to open three e-Business Solutions Centers in Europe over the next six months, with more to follow.

The first three centers will be in Stockholm, Munich, and Reading, England. The centers will be designed to provide facilities and resources for creating and validating e-business software running on Intel's hardware architecture, the company said in a statement.

Intel later also plans to open such centers in Amsterdam and Paris, the statement said.

The announcement was made by Robert Eckelmann, vice president and general manager, Intel Europe, Middle East and Africa at a speech to business leaders in Amsterdam, according to the statement.

Intel also announced that seven European e-business solutions providers (eBSPs) have joined a program it announced last month that aims to get companies up and running on Intel's e-business infrastructure, and includes use of the centers as well as engineers, technical support and training.

The first European companies to join the program included Ltd. and iXL Enterprises Inc. of the U.K., Icon Medialab Europe, a division of Icon Medialab International AB and Actis Systems Corp. in Russia.
