FRAMINGHAM (04/13/2000) - IBM Corp. today announced new Netfinity thin servers designed to deliver what the company called the highest computing power per square foot of Intel-based platforms.
The 4500R is a 5.25-in. thick, two-processor, rack-mountable system. The 4500R, which starts at $3,700, offers front-access hot swap and redundant power and cooling, as well as redundant front-access power supplies.
At 7 in. thick, the 6000R is a rack-mountable, four-processor system. The 6000R offers Chipkill correction memory technology, which protects the server from any single memory chip failure, and up to 16GB of memory. Prices for the 6000R start at $7,000.
