LONDON (04/13/2000) - U.K. systems integration company Logica PLC today announced it will develop a new Web hosting center for Cable & Wireless Communications PLC (C&W).
The Web hosting center, which C&W announced last month, will be 130,000 square feet. C&W is investing 100 million pounds (US$158 million) in the center, which it says will have the capacity to host every Web site currently operating in the U.K. [See "C&W to Build $158M Web Hosting Center in U.K.," March 2.]The facility will also host ASP (application services provider) services being provided by C&W as part of a strategic relationship with Compaq Computer Corp., Logica said in a statement.
Logica is working on the design of the center and is developing the hosting services. The company has suggested an IP (Internet Protocol) backbone strong enough to let C&W handle all of the Internet-based functions of the companies using the center.
Logica hopes the center will save companies time and improve efficiency by allowing them to outsource Internet-based services, while smaller companies will be able to save money by sharing server space.
