Oracle announces 2-for-1 stock split

Oracle said on Monday it will issue a 2-for-1 stock split of its outstanding common shares, effective January 18.

The stock split will apply to shareholders of record December 30, 1999, the company said in a statement released Monday. There are 1,429,445,000 shares of common stock outstanding, the company said.

Oracle shares on the Nasdaq stock exchange this afternoon stood at $US96.31, up $5.62, or 6.2 percent from the previous close.

The company's stock has split nine times since its initial pubic offering in March 1986, the company said.
