FRAMINGHAM (04/24/2000) - Ford Motor Co. and Compuware Corp. today announced that they have fully implemented two new application management centers in the U.K. and Germany.
The deal expands on Dearborn, Michigan-based Ford's goal of outsourcing the management of its portfolio of 1,500 applications on a worldwide basis.
One-fifth of those applications are controlled from the automaker's offices in Cologne, Germany, and Essex, U.K., the sites of the new management centers.
The facilities will support all the existing European applications, and Ford said it expects to add about 100 new applications in the region each year - many of them Internet-based.
Under the agreement, Ford and Compuware will jointly manage applications that range across the automaker's operations in areas such as manufacturing, marketing, finance and product development.
Compuware, in Farmington Hills, Michigan, will handle the technical aspects of maintaining the applications, while Ford will retain control over selecting and developing the software. About 350 Ford information technology employees are working at the new centers alongside staffers from Compuware, which said it expects to reduce Ford's annual application management costs by 30%.
The two companies set up a similar application management center at Ford's headquarters in Dearborn two years ago.
