EMC to Unveil New Storage Arrays

FRAMINGHAM (04/25/2000) - EMC Corp. today in New York is expected to unveil hardware and software for managing enterprise storage area networks (SAN).

The storage hardware includes the Symmetrix 8000, 8730 and 8430, and the Data General Clarion 4500 - all designed for large and mid-sized SAN users. The 8000, 8730 and 8430 are two to four times faster than present Symmetrix storage arrays, according to sources close to the announcement. They have storage capacities ranging from 3 terabytes to 19 terabytes and are available and shipping now.

The Data General Clarion 4500 is a full Fibre Channel storage array that includes software similar to EMC's Volume Logic, which provides secure access control for supporting more than one host. The 4500 also supports other EMC software and is integrated into EMC's ControlCenter management software.

ControlCenter allows storage administrators to monitor, configure, control, tune and plan EMC SANs from a central location.

The Data General 4500 is the first product to come out of the EMC Data General acquisition to incorporate EMC software for the mid-range storage market. It too is shipping now.
