Netscape Strikes European Search Engine Deal

STOCKHOLM (04/27/2000) - Netscape Communications Corp. has signed an agreement with Euroseek AB to use the Stockholm-based company's search engine at nine of its European portal sites, the America Online Inc. subsidiary announced today.

Under the terms of the agreement, Netscape will adopt Euroseek's engine to provide more extensive language-specific searches at its Netcenter portal sites in Sweden, Denmark, Portugal, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Great Britain, Netscape said in a statement.

In turn, Euroseek has agreed to license data from Netscape's ODP (Open Directory Project), a search directory covering over 1.6 million sites in over 260,000 categories that is compiled and organized by over 23,000 editors in 229 countries and in over 42 languages, according to the statement.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
