FRAMINGHAM (03/01/2000) - Lawson Software Inc. today expanded its line of e-commerce applications by releasing six new packages, including an online auction system and tools for building Web storefronts that link to the company's back-office business software.
St. Paul, Minn.-based Lawson announced other products today as well:
* Software that provides communications and file-transfer links between Lawson-based application servers and other systems.
* An integration tool that lets Lawson's applications process transactions through external payment servers.
* A central data repository for storing corporate information and then making it available to both internal and external end users.
* A server that connects e-mail systems directly to Lawson applications.
The new products are all available immediately as additions to Lawson's Collaborative Commerce Suite, which was first announced last fall. The company said 12 customers have installed pieces of the e-commerce line so far.
One of those users is H20products.com Inc., a subsidiary of Blake Equipment Co. in Bloomfield, Conn., that sells products such as water pumps, pipes and fittings via the Web.
Patrick O'Neill, e-commerce marketing manager at H20products.com, said the company wanted to provide direct links between its Internet storefront and its Lawson-based back-office system so the Web site would be as easy to use as possible.
Most of the users of the site are well drillers who aren't used to doing business online, O'Neill said during a Lawson press conference in Boston.
"They're exceedingly Web-wary, and we've got to get them to trust us so they'll come back to our site and continue to do business with us," he said.
