Active Software to Buy Web-to-Host Apps Maker

FRAMINGHAM (03/01/2000) - Active Software Inc., a vendor of application integration tools, yesterday said it has agreed to acquire TransLink Software Inc. for $75 million in cash and stock.

At the same time, Santa Clara, Calif.-based Active Software announced that it's developing an XML-based Internet gateway server that will provide business-to-business integration links between systems running at different companies. Pricing for the new Business Exchange Server starts at $125,000. The product is due to ship in the second quarter.

TransLink, based in Bellevue, Wash., makes software that ties mainframes to Web-based applications and other systems. According to Active Software, TransLink's customers include Alltel Corp. in Little Rock, Ark., Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana and Hibernia Corp. in New Orleans.
