Visa Names Exec to Head Technologies Group

FRAMINGHAM (03/01/2000) - Visa USA Inc. today named Paul Vessey, a financial services industry veteran, to oversee its emerging technologies activities.

In his new role, Vessey will help Visa identify and act on new technology opportunities, such as the credit-card association's initiative to process checks at the point of sale.

Vessey, who will carry the title of executive vice president of emerging markets and technology, came to the Foster City, Calif.-based firm from Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Toronto, where he was senior executive vice president in charge of card products, payment products and insurance.

Vessey is also the former chairman of the Visa Canada Association and the former vice chairman of Visa International Inc. In addition, he has held various positions at American Express Canada, the Continental Bank of Canada and Toronto Dominion Bank.
