TOKYO (03/03/2000) - Computer Associates International Inc. (CA) and Korea Telecom Hitel Co. Ltd. are forming a joint venture to target the Korean application service provider market, CA announced in a statement.
The new venture ties one of the world's largest providers of business software with one of Korea's leading ISPs (Internet service providers) -- Hitel is the ISP arm of Korea Telecom, the national telecommunications carrier. For its part, CA will supply software systems that allow companies to move procurement and other activities to the Web while Hitel will provide the data center services that are intended to rid companies of the need to buy and maintain hardware.
The deal is the second for CA in Asia in the last week. On March 1 it announced a tie up with Beijing Anyi, the largest state-owned accounting and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software company in China. Under that deal a new joint venture between the two will supply CA's e-Business software tools to companies in China.
