LONDON (03/06/2000) - The U.K. telecommunications company, Telewest Communications PLC, and management and technology consultants, Andersen Consulting Inc., have formed a joint venture to develop broadband services, the companies announced today.
The new company is a 50-50 partnership based in London and will operate independently of its owners, Telewest and Andersen said in a joint statement.
Thirty employees have moved to the new company from Andersen, as has Arjang Zadeh, the new venture's acting chief executive officer, who had been an associate partner there, the companies said.
The company, which has not yet been named, will develop, customize and license broadband products and services with the first product, Full Video on Demand, to be available by the end of March, the companies said. Future broadband services the company plans to offer are interactive TV, wire-free broadband home, music Pay Per View, interactive advertising, games, information and eBanking, Telewest and Andersen said.
The broadband company will aim to serve operators in the cable, telecom, digital terrestrial and satellite markets with Telewest itself signing on as the joint venture's first customer, the companies said. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
