Hyperion Essbase 7X, Hyperion Visual Explorer, Hyperion Data Integration Connector for SAP and Profitability Management Further Fuel Powerful Analytic Platform

Sydney, October 5, 2004: Hyperion (Nasdaq: HYSL) has announced major enhancements to its leading Business Intelligence Platform that give customers unprecedented flexibility, scalability and the power to tackle the toughest analysis in finance as well as marketing, sales, supply chain, logistics, human resources and other lines of business. Combined, the new products extend the legendary power of Hyperion Essbase to new types of users and add significant new capabilities for Business Intelligence Platform customers.

Hyperion Essbase 7X is the most powerful advancement in analytic technology since the introduction of the original Essbase in 1992. Leveraging new Aggregate Storage innovation, Hyperion Essbase 7X is the first and only analytic engine that supports both financial and line of business analysis within a single architecture with no compromise in speed and scalability—making Hyperion the first vendor ever to offer such capabilities in a single architecture.

Hyperion Essbase 7X also boasts the new Hyperion Visual Explorer, the first visual spreadsheet for querying and navigating OLAP data. The new interface will help bring powerful analytics to both power users and line of business managers in all corners of the enterprise. The dramatic improvements in ease of use and intuitiveness allow even novice users to take advantage of Hyperion Visual Explorer’s simplicity, as well its live visual window into data.

Hyperion has also added enterprise analytics to SAP BW through better integration with the introduction of Hyperion Data Integration Connector, an intelligent adapter technology for accessing SAP BW data sources to support customised Business Performance Management solutions built on Hyperion Essbase.

Hyperion’s new technology enables business users to obtain on-demand snapshots of their SAP BW information for ad-hoc reporting and advanced analytics. Through Hyperion Data Integration Connector, users can also quickly and easily access data in SAP BW and take advantage of the legendary power of Essbase to perform both financial and line of business analysis, with no compromise to scalability or speed.

“Whether enterprises are considering purchasing pre-packaged Business Intelligence applications, developing them internally or using an ESP to build them, the common denominator is the BI platform upon which they are constructed,” said Howard Dresner, vice president and research fellow at Gartner, Inc. “A suitable BI platform increases the ability to rapidly develop and deploy Business Intelligence applications over more traditional development tools.

“Important BI platform criteria include: a modern platform architecture (for example, modularity), third-party extensibility (for example, application programming interfaces and development paradigm), BI features (for example, OLAP, analytical/modeling and graphical presentation) and suitable vendor support programs.”

Building on the power of Hyperion Essbase 7X, Hyperion is also introducing Profitability Management from Hyperion, the first end-to-end analytic solution for managing customer profitability on a single platform. Profitability Management from Hyperion helps companies solve one of today’s most pressing business problems—identifying the most and least profitable customers, products, channels and regions—while arming managers with the information they need to act upon this information. Profitability Management combines advanced analytics with operational cost modelling, reports and dashboards to help businesses quickly analyse, understand and manage key profitability information. This is the first in a series of integration business solutions that Hyperion will introduce to the market.
