GABORONE, BOTSWANA (03/09/2000) - Botswana's technology infrastructure is currently benefiting from a growth boom brought on by a high profile government project to create an International Financial Services Center, according to an executive at a local IT services firm.
The project has brought with it a huge need for networking solutions for the international financial companies attracted by the government initiative, said Keith Marais, managing director of Dimension Data Botswana.
Though Botswana has been a late starter, Marais said it is now catching up quickly with installation of first world technology that puts the country well ahead of several other African countries. Marais has spent three years working with both the private and public sectors here, and the company's revenues have grown significantly since its Botswana operations were launched, he added.
Customers include Botswana banks, the mining sector and utilities.
Dimension Data's systems design and implementation services include work with products from Cisco Systems Inc., Microsoft Corp., Compaq Computer Corp. and 3Com Corp.
