LONDON (03/09/2000) - British Telecommunications PLC (BT) and Photo-Me International PLC have partnered to deliver photo booths that also will double as e-commerce kiosks, the companies announced yesterday.
BT and Photo-Me have already signed agreements with 14 online merchants to offer services via the booths beginning at the end of the month, the companies said in a statement.
The BT PhotoPlanet kiosk portals will offer online content such as news and travel information, e-mail access, online shopping and, of course, photographs, the companies said. BT and Photo-Me expect to have 1,000 kiosks installed and running by the end of the year throughout the U.K.
Among the online merchants included in the partnership agreements with BT and Photo-Me are Thetrainline.com Ltd., which books train travel online and supplies train travel information; interactive wedding guide Confetti.co.uk Ltd.; Drinx.com Ltd., which offers online bargains on alcoholic drinks for home delivery; online music store Dance DJ Direct Ltd. and Ebookers.com Ltd., which offers discounted online travel services for flights, hotels and package holidays.
Nine of the 14 online merchants have signed specialized agreements that give them prominent placement in the photo booths so that users can just push an icon button on the kiosk's Internet screen and gain direct access to that company's Web site or call center, according to the statement.
Financial details of the agreements between BT and Photo-Me or the 14 online merchants were not disclosed, and a company spokeswoman said she was unable to confirm pricing plans for online e-commerce transactions for customers.
The photographic products available through the PhotoPlanet booths will include ID photos, customized postcards and fun stickers, BT and Photo-Me said.
