Bulletin: Microsoft Details X-Box Game Console

TOKYO (03/10/2000) - Microsoft Corp. today announced plans to enter the highly competitive home video games market and unveiled basic details of the company's new X-Box console.

The machine, which is scheduled to be launched in 2001, will have more than twice the graphics performance of the current highest performance game console -- Sony's PlayStation 2, which was launched last week.

The graphics chip will be codeveloped with nVidia Corp., Microsoft said in a statement.

Other basic features include:

600MHz x86-compatible processor

Custom 3-D nVidia graphics processor

64M bytes of RAM (unified memory architecture)Custom 3-D audio processor8G-byte hard drive4X DVD (digital versatile disc) drive with movie playbackFour game controller portsExpansion port Proprietary A/V connector100M bits per second Ethernet connectivity.
