BT Plans ADSL, Digital TV Service Trials in London

LONDON (03/07/2000) - British Telecommunications PLC today announced that it will partner with video-on-demand service provider Yes Television in an interactive broadband television services trial in West London beginning next month.

The co-branded trial service, which will be delivered to 400 homes in the Chiswick and Hammersmith areas of London, will deliver video on demand, Internet access, and e-mail services to televisions via ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) transmitted over existing phone lines, according to a statement issued by BT.

The trial is designed to explore the commercial viability of delivering such services over ADSL. The two companies will jointly manage and market the service, with the intention of a nationwide roll-out at a later date, BT said in the statement.
