Health Care IT Group Appoints New Leader

FRAMINGHAM (03/17/2000) - After nearly an eight-month search for an executive director, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) has appointed Stephen Lieber to head the organization.

Next month, Lieber will leave another not-for-profit, the American Hospital Association (AHA) in Chicago, to join the 12,000-member HIMSS.

Prior to the AHA, Lieber spent nine years as executive director of the 24,000-member Emergency Nurses Association in Des Plaines, Ill. Lieber has worked in the health care industry for nearly 20 years.

According to an HIMSS statement, Lieber will concentrate on such health care information technology issues as using data for clinical decisions and using technology as an educational tool. The association will introduce Lieber to members next month in Dallas, during its annual conference.

Lieber will replace Norris Orms, who has served as acting director since John Page left the role of executive director last summer.
