BOSTON (03/20/2000) - Microsoft Corp. and Compaq Computer Corp. are broadening an existing collaborative relationship under a new three-year deal in which MSN services, Microsoft's online network, will be integrated with Compaq Internet PCs.
Compaq customers will be able to customize MSN services under the program offered through Presario PCs and bearing the slogan "Compaq.Net powered by MSN," the companies said today in a joint statement.
Starting within a few months, Compaq's Presario line will offer the preinstalled service, including a portal aimed at Compaq users, free Hotmail e-mail service, MSN Search and MSN MoneyCentral. The portal can be seen now at http://presario.compaq.net/ and looks essentially like MSN's main portal site, offering many of the same news headlines and features, but with added news and information from Compaq.
The aim of the new program is to enable users to be able to quickly access the Internet when they first buy a Presario. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. It will extend to co-branded service for Compaq Internet appliances, wireless devices, home networking products and a broadband initiative, the companies said.
