SAP, Chemical Firms Create JV to Run Online Market

LONDON (03/22/2000) - SAP AG is moving forward with its plans for an e-commerce business-to-business (B2B) Web site for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries by establishing a joint venture with a consortium of chemical companies to develop the project, the German software vendor announced today.

Along with SAP, chemical companies BASF AG, Degussa-Huls AG, Henkel KGaA and Metallgesellschaft AG have moved to set up the joint venture which should be legally established by April, SAP said today in a statement. Membership in the joint venture is still open to companies worldwide, SAP added.

SAP announced its plans to launch the chemical and pharmaceutical e-commerce marketplace last December [See "SAP Sets Up Online Markets," Dec. 15, 1999] with the intention of using its mySAP.com package as the site's software technology.

The e-commerce B2B Web site is still expected to launch by the end of the second quarter, SAP said.

SAP, in Walldorf, Germany, can be reached at +49-6227-747474, or at http://www.sap.com/.
