LONDON (03/22/2000) - Dell Computer Corp. has launched a new auction site for computers in the U.K., the company announced yesterday.
The site, Dellauction.co.uk, is a U.K. version of the company's U.S. model, that not only allows consumers to sell their old computer systems, regardless of brand, but also allows them to bid on used or refurbished Dell systems, the company said in a statement.
Dell announced that there would be introductory offers as low as one pound (US$1.60) for a PC featuring Intel Corp.'s Pentium III processor, but by this morning, the bidding for a Dell Dimension with the Pentium had already reached 700 pounds, with over two days left on the auction.
The U.K. service is partnered with Fairmarket Inc., the same auction company that works with Dell on its U.S. auction site.
Users can currently only bid on computers at the U.K. site, but they will be able to place their own systems on the auction site from next week, Dell said.
Dell Auction can be found in the U.K. at http://www.dellauction.co.uk, and in the U.S. at http://www.dellauction.com/. Dell, in Round Rock, Texas, can be reached at +1-512-338-4400 or http://www.dell.com/.
