TOKYO (03/23/2000) - Japan Telecom Co. Ltd. has announced a deal with Concert Communications Co., the global telecommunications joint venture of AT&T Corp. and British Telecommunications PLC (BT), under which it will resell Concert services in Japan.
The deal is the first major alliance to be announced between the partners since AT&T and BT took a joint 30 percent stake in Japan Telecom last year. [See "AT&T, BT Finalize Japan Telecom Deal," Sep. 2, 1999].
Under the agreement, Japan Telecom has secured exclusive rights to resell services from Concert's global accounts division. The division offers the ability to handle the entire networking needs of a multinational corporation and targets the world's largest companies, mainly those in the financial, information technology and petrochemical industries.
Japan Telecom also secured sole distributor rights to Concert's global voice, private line, frame relay, virtual network and value-added IP (Internet protocol) services in Japan and non-exclusive rights to resell Concert's wholesale services aimed at other carriers.
In addition, Concert named Japan Telecom its preferred supplier of infrastructure in Japan, which means Concert will turn to Japan Telecom first when it needs infrastructure to provide any services in the country. Concert will also get use of Japan Telecom's domestic backbone infrastructure.
