STOCKHOLM (03/30/2000) - Taiwanese chip set vendor Via Technologies Inc. today unveiled its first chip set designed for servers and workstations with support for up to two Intel Corp. Pentium II or Pentium III processors.
Designed to expand the chip set and processor vendor's reach beyond desktop PCs, Via said in a statement that the new version of the Apollo Pro 133A chip set is targeted for use in motherboards aimed at the rapidly growing server and workstation markets.
In addition to offering 133MHz system bus support, the new chip set is also capable of supporting up to 4G bytes of registered and unbuffered ECC (error checking and correcting) SDRAM (synchronous dynamic random access memory) mounted on DIMMs (dual inline memory modules) compliant with the Via-backed PC133 specification, the company said.
The chip set also supports 4x AGP (accelerated graphics port) technology, Via said.
