EU Clears France Telecom's Takeover of Global One

BRUSSELS (03/28/2000) - The European Commission has authorized France Telecom SA to acquire sole control of Global One SA, a European Commission spokesman confirmed today.

The clearance formally ends the joint venture approved by the European Commission in 1996 which created and gave joint control of Global One to Deutsche Telekom AG, France Telecom SA and Sprint Corp. That decision also authorized the venture to provide integrated voice and data services to multinational corporate clients, and carrier services on a world-wide and regional basis.

In January Sprint pulled out of the venture following its decision to merge with MCI WorldCom Inc. Deutsche Telekom also sold its share in Global One to France Telecom.
