FRAMINGHAM (03/30/2000) - An undetermined number of Datek Online customers were forced to make stock trades over the phone or by accessing the online brokerage through alternate Web addresses for half an hour yesterday due to a systems glitch.
The systems snafu "had a minimal effect on the number of transactions" that were executed online, according to spokesman Michael Dunn.
The Web site for the Iselin, New Jersey-based company suffered from an intermittent service problem from 2:15 to 2:45 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Dunn said.
"We had a glitch in the system, and it was fixed," he added.
Information about the exact cause of the glitch or the number of customers affected wasn't yet available, Dunn said.
However, he said that the problem wasn't related to capacity issues.
"We've been growing rapidly throughout the first quarter - the number of transactions has increased significantly over the last quarter of 1999 - but we've been adding capacity on a continual basis," Dunn said.
