IT managers brace for busy year

Topping the agenda for IT managers this year are the GST, internal and external Web applications, e-commerce and security.

IT manager for construction giant Multiplex, Joe Ong, said the GST, e-commerce and security were high on his list of priorities for 2000.

Companies had limited time to deal with the introduction of the GST after concentrating much of their resources on Y2K throughout 1999, Ong warned.

Honda Australia's IT manager, Laurence Lau, said the GST, e-business, and the implementation of an ERP system were highest on his 2000 IT agenda.

Lau said Honda also planned to improve its intranet, which had proven popular with its dealers.

Also developing their intranets, while keeping one eye on the GST, will be the Federal Government's National Archives of Australia and West Australian-based Epic Energy.

Epic's national IT manager, Keith Jeffers, said the utility planned to introduce an intranet throughout its many country centres and improve communications applications in the bush.
