Oracle Extends Market Focus in Southern Africa

Oracle Corp. has concluded a deal with local software company RPC Data Ltd. to develop and localize Oracle Payroll in Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, Kenya, Uganda and Malawi.

RPC Data will develop the localized payroll in accordance with Oracle standards and the end product will be reviewed and certified by Oracle prior to release.

Botswana's localized payroll will roll out in March, according the agreement.

In the meantime, RPC is beefing up plans to extend activities to more parts of sub-Saharan Africa, having been granted more rights as the only Oracle appointee for this region outside Southern Africa.

The extended trading rights for RPC Data, which recently listed on the Botswana Stock Exchange, are in recognition of several years of a successful relationship between the two organizations, Dermont O'Kelly, an Oracle director for Middle East, Europe and Africa, said at the signing of the agreement in Gaborone.
