Philips Signs Pact With Local Telco

Phillips Business Communications last month signed a pact with Botswana Telecommunication Corp. (BTC) that the carrier says will enable it to roll out new telecommunication services such as ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network).

Olebile Gaborone, general manager for BTC, said the company has recognized Phillips as a reliable partner in technology. The deal is focused on digital systems and especially PABX systems, which he said can fortify their effort to fully launch ISDN. The Phillips products will also enable BTC to advance with other modern features such as music, voice mail, call forwarding, remote maintenance and others.

Through the deal, BTC is expected to further strengthen its position in the market -- of which it now holds over 50 percent share -- by giving it services to offer to all major corporate clients in the region.
